We envision a world in which Hispanic and Latinx voices are central to global cultural conversations, and where poetry and the arts serve as bridges across geographies, generations, and identities.

With more than 505,000 Spanish speakers in Ohio and 38.3 million nationwide, Trasatlántica aspires to become a key node in the cultural triangle formed by the United States, Latin America, and Europe around the Hispanic languages and cultures. Through creative expression and cross-cultural collaboration, we promote local, national, and international dialogue while positioning Cleveland as a global hub for Spanish-language literature and inclusive artistic exchange.

Within the U.S. cultural landscape, many Spanish-speaking poets remain marginalized—lacking access to spaces of publication, visibility, and critical engagement. Given the economic precarity of literary production, (“being a poet” is not a paid profession)creators often invest limited time and resources simply to find venues in which their work can be read, discussed, and valued.

We understand social justice as inseparable from equitable access to cultural institutions, recognition of Hispanic and Latinx artistic production, and public visibility for the richness of our communities. In response, Trasatlántica functions as a transnational platform that facilitates the exchange of ideas, cultures, and creative practices beyond U.S. borders. We offer artists a space to publish their work while fostering transatlantic dialogue with other historically underrepresented poets and scholars, both nationally and internationally.

Objectives

Our organization advances the arts, poetry, and education through the following objectives:

Foster the exchange of multilingual poetry by Latinx writers in the United States, Spain, and Latin America, alongside local poets and artists, contributing to a vibrant and diverse artistic ecosystem.

Promote poetry and the arts through the dissemination, reception, and critical engagement with literary works from local and global contexts.

Advance education by encouraging dialogue, knowledge-sharing, and the production of creative and scholarly work.

Carry out all lawful activities that further charitable and educational purposes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Place poetry and the arts at the center of human interaction as tools for personal growth, community building, and intercultural exchange.

History

Our organization operates as a center for cultural diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice. Its Board of Directors is composed of members of the Hispanic community from Cleveland, across the United States, and throughout the Spanish-speaking world. Our Editorial Board includes a diverse group of Hispanic writers, poets, and scholars.

Recognizing the long-standing underrepresentation of Hispanic and Latinx cultural production, we work to expand access to cultural spaces while amplifying creative voices often excluded from mainstream literary circuits. Through this commitment, we seek to foster sustained cultural and intellectual exchange across borders.

Guided by this vision, our organization serves as a meeting point for creative and scholarly work. We also develop cultural initiatives such as poetry festivals, creative writing workshops, educational programs for the Hispanic community, and collaborative projects with partner organizations at the local, national, and international levels.

Be part of the dream!
