Matías Martínez Abeijón

Matías Martínez Abeijón studied History of Art for two years at Universidad de Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, Spain, before earning a degree in History and Science of Music from Universidad de Valladolid, in Castilla y León, Spain. He later completed both a Master of Arts and a Ph.D. in Spanish at The Ohio State University. He taught previously at Southern Utah University and is currently an Associate Professor of Spanish in the Department of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at Cleveland State University. His research interests include literature and film in Latin America and Spain since 1989, Colombian cinema, documentary comics, Galician culture, transatlantic connections in media, and the formation of national identities, among other topics. He is also a co-creator of “Voces de Cleveland: Northeast Ohio Latina, Latino, and LatinX Oral Histories,” an emerging collaborative project developed with Mark Souther, Director of the Center for Public History + Digital Humanities at Cleveland State University.
